Position is responsible for:

Main duties & Objectives:

  • Develop and execute a sales strategy that builds and maintains a customer base and expands revenue streams 
  • Build strong relationships with external partners and leads/potential customers to open up opportunities for sales and revenue generation 
  • Formulate and implement an account management plan to ensure that customer relations are properly maintained  
  • Monitor the development of the product/service from its conceptualisation through to its testing and launch, and tailor unique sales strategies around the product/service 
  • Identify new markets, new partnerships, new ways to reach existing markets, or new product/service offerings to better meet the needs of existing markets 
  • Develop sales targets and identify a roadmap by examining growth opportunities and enabling sales improvements  
  • Create and implement Sales Action Plans (SAPs) and set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)  
  • Conduct research on the latest market trends to stay ahead of the competition and secure a greater market share 
  • Gather information to produce Expressions of Interest (EOIs), Terms of Reference (TORs), and prepare proposals in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) 
  • Undertake detailed analyses of sales performance for the purpose of reporting sales strategy successes, weaknesses, and opportunities 
  • Manage colleagues within the team, from onboarding to exit, including performance management processes 
  • Ensure that team members are given opportunities for training and career development by working with HR to support the capacity-building process 

Knowledge, skills, education, and experience:

Essential 

  • At least 10 years of working experience in a senior management sales and business development position within a fast-paced, innovative, and dynamic business environment 
  • Previous experience in a sales role for a consultancy or consultant-led organisation 
  • First-class communication and collaboration skills, client interfacing and presenting. Excellent presentation, verbal, and written English communication skills. 
  • Possess commercial acumen with demonstrated ability to gain a deep understanding of the customer base and the competitive market and to analyse sales performance 
  • Excellent track record as a partnership-forging, lead-generating, brand-promoting professional 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including the ability to build and develop a team of highly motivated and well-qualified staff/volunteers to achieve results 
  • Ability to take initiative and help set things up in a start-up environment 
  • Ability to actively seek and give input in a collaborative team environment 
  • A committed team player with good communication skills 
  • Available to volunteer at least 7-10 hours a week 

 

Desirable 

  • Relationships and networks within the WASH sector  
  • Experience as a Head of Sales & Business Development 
  • Experience in setting up a Sales & Business Development department 
  • Experience working in an early-stage start-up and going through a scaling phase 
  • Passion for the start-up life and comfortable in a role with a little ambiguity 
  • Experience leading, managing, and coaching successful teams in different geographical locations
